Serotine Bat Eptesicus serotinus
This species is occasionally recorded around the Kinson Common having been first recorded as long ago as the 1970`s.
It is a large bat with a wing expanse of about 360mm and the body is covered in dark fur. It has been known to patrol low over the grassy areas of Poole Lane Meadows and at other times it patrols at a higher level of between nine and twelve metres from the ground.
Being sociable, it roosts in holes or roofs. It is on the wing until autumn arrives and then it hibernates.
Haunt. Open areas on the Common and around the Kinson area.
Food. Moths and beetles.
