Wood Mouse Apodemus sylvaticus
This species is present on the Kinson Common throughout the year. It has large eyes and ears, also a very long tail. The colouration is yellowish-brown above with a whiter paler appearance below.
It is mainly nocturnal and builds very elaborate runs. Whilst on the look out for food, it proves itself to be an excellent climber.
This species breeds from March to October. If the conditions are suitable, it can breed to December. Several litters are raised and as many as 9 young can be independent of their parents after only 21 days.
Food. Natural vegetation, fruits and seeds, also insects, worms and snails. Signs. It hides and hoards food in old birds` nests and other suitable locations.
