A much smaller willow found in wetter places on the Kinson Common.
This species is a closely related to Salix caprea. It has hairy and blackish twigs and buds. The leaves are narrower and smaller, slightly turning inwards at the edges.
The catkins are also a delight to see in the springtime. Male trees display scores of white tufty buds. Female trees display numerous bright golden-yellow catkins.
