We have included some spiders under the insect section as they are often thought of as such. All spiders do actually belong to the classification known as Arachnids. This class or order dates back to 350 millions years. Certainly a very long time ago! Arachnids are named after the mythological young maiden Arachne, who dared to challenge the goddess Athena to a weaving contest and was changed into a spider. This story has been handed down over many many centuries and it is why there is the belief even to this day, it is very unlucky to kill a spider.
