Emperor Dragonfly Anax imperator
A very common and spectacular species to be found on the Kinson Common, especially around the margins of Pepin`s Pond. This species is on the wing from May to October. Males have a distinctive blue sheen and are always in flight, systematically patrolling both the central mass of the pond and the margins in pursuit of small insects. Females tend to keep to the margins where they lay their eggs amongst natural water plants.
