Pond Skater
Gerris lacustris

One of the most common British bugs. This species is found in most of the bogs pools on the Kinson Common. This photograph was taken on the 2nd September, 2003.

These very agile creatures use their middle legs to row themselves over the water`s surface while searching for tiny insects upon which they prey.

When winter arrives they will shelter well away from water returning again next springtime.
