Painted Lady Cynthia cardui
A fast flying migratory species which visits the Common in the springtime and remains locally until it dies in the autumn. Its larvae feed on all kinds of thistle which are abundant locally.
Being a very fast flyer, it is not always easy to photograph. The "Lady" loves fleabane nectar and becomes very preoccupied allowing photographs to be taken as it enjoys the flower ladden grassland of Poole Lane Meadows. Cast a shadow upon this species and it quickly disappears to a less disturbed area.
