It is a very familiar resident bird around the Kinson Common. Everyone knows its black and white markings. On the ground, it wags its tail as it runs along in short bursts looking for insects.
Haunt. It can be seen everywhere around the Common. It especially likes Poole lane Meadows in the autumn and winter. Large numbers gather together in the shorter days of the year and can be seen on the roof tops of local homes.
Nest. In holes in banks or walls. The nest is well made from grasses,rootlets, wool and hairs.
Eggs. 4-6 are laid during April to June. The white eggs are covered with greyish speckles.
Food. All types of insects and it is very partial to flies.
Notes. "Tu-reep". It also utters a low song.
