The Nuthatch is a regular visitor to the Common and local gardens in all months of the year and is always at home walking up and down tree trunks.
The plumage is slate-blue above with a buff underside, shading to a chestnut-red on its flanks.
Haunt. Wooded and tree-lined areas on the Common and in local gardens.
Nest. In a tree hole high up from reach which it lines with mud. The interior is lined with leaves, grasses and bark.
Eggs. 5-8 eggs are laid during the nesting season which takes place between April and June. The whitish eggs are tinged with pinkish-brown, marked with specks and spots of reddish brown.
Food. Insects, berries, nuts and seeds.
Notes. Even when hidden from view, its loud and clear whistle,"toy toy", announces the presence of this bird.
