The Bullfinch is a resident bird on the Kinson Common. Numbers are never high. The male has a deep rose-pink breast, black head and bluish-grey back. The plumage of the female is much duller. Both have white rumps which can be seen when they are moving or flying from tree to tree.
Haunt. Usually in tree-lined areas on the Kinson Common. When they visit local gardens they like to peck away at fruit tree buds.
Nest. In a tree or higher bush, well hidden from view. The nest is made from an assortment of twigs, roots and hairs.
Eggs. 4-6 eggs are laid. The nesting season starts in April and can extend to June. The eggs are greenish blue and are spotted eith red-brown.
Food. Mainly the seeds of weeds, berries and many types of insects during the summer.
Notes. A low single plain note. There is also a low and musical song.
