It is always present on the Kinson Common and may be seen at any month in the year. It is easily recognisable by its pinkish-brown plumage. Jays are very wary and soon take to cover when disturbed.
Haunt. Wooded areas on the Kinson Common.
Nest. In a small tree sometimes very low down. The nest is made from grass, roots and sticks.
Eggs. 5-7 are laid in April or May. Pale-greenish or buff, often speckled with a light brown colouring.
Food. Insects, grubs, snails, wild fruits, eggs, small animals and birds.
Notes. A very harsh call which it sometimes repeats several times.
