The House Sparrow is now a conservation species and is thankfully resident around the Kinson Common. It is a very chirpy and sociable bird. Everyone is familiar with its general shape, size and colouration. The female is always a duller brown and lacks the noticeable black bib grey-brown crown of the male.
Haunt. General around the Common, often on the fringes very close to human habitation.
Nest. In a building, usually under under loose tiling in the eaves. The nest is an untidy affair constructed from straw and lots of feathers.
Eggs. 5-6 are laid from February to August and beyond. The eggs are greyish or brownish in colour.
Food. All types of seeds and insects, also garden scraps.
Notes. "Chirps" and "churrs".
