The shape, colours, and the general outline of the Heron is familiar to all. It does fly over the Kinson Common regularly. When it does land on the Common, it can be seen standing motionless, waiting to pounce on its dinner!
Haunt. Generally where there is water. It can be observed at Pepin`s Pond and in Central Bog.
Nest. The nest is built in a heronry where numbers of herons come together at breeding time. The nest is a bulky affair built high up in a tree or other suitable locations. The nest is constructed with very large sticks.
Eggs. 3-5 are laid during March depending upon weather conditions. The eggs are greenish-blue in colour.
Food. Water fowl, fish, frogs, eels, voles and even insects.
Notes. A noisy "croak".
