This beutiful and tiny bird is present around the Common throughout the year. It is very secretive in nature. The plumage is soft olive, with a bright yellow crest and dark bill and legs. The female`s crest is a duller yellow.
Haunt. Wooded areas and copses around the Common. It is often seen at Great Oaks, Pond Scrub, also near Poole Lane Heights.
Nest. It probably nests in fir trees in Kinson Cemetery. The very tiny basket-shaped nest is constructed using mosses, lichens, spiders web, with a fine lining of soft feathers.
Eggs. 7-10 are laid from April to June. The tiny white eggs are speckled with light red-brown markings.
Food. All types of tiny insects.
Notes. "si si si". These notes are sounded as it moves carefully and secretively amongst low-lying vegetation.
